Arc Squads is a 90-day challenge app you do with your friends. These are the rules for using it — what you get, what it costs, how to cancel, and how to behave towards the other people in your squad.
Like our Privacy Policy, this is written in plain English on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email hello@arcsquads.com and we will explain it.
By downloading or using Arc Squads, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the app.
Who we are. Arc Squads is run by Graham Richard Paling.
Contact: hello@arcsquads.com
Arc Squads is not for children under 13. We ask your date of birth when you sign up, and if you are under 13 we will not create an account for you.
If you are between 13 and 18, please check with a parent or guardian before you subscribe to anything.
If we find out an account belongs to someone under 13, we will delete it.
You sign in with your email address. We send you a six-digit code — there is no password to lose or leak.
You are responsible for keeping access to your email secure, because anyone who can read your email can sign in as you.
One account is for one person. Please do not share it.
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, under Settings. It really deletes — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what goes.
Arc Squads has a free tier and a paid tier.
Free: you can build and run an arc with up to four active rules, check in daily, and join a squad.
Paid: removes the four-rule cap and unlocks the rest of the app.
We offer paid access in more than one shape — a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, and a one-off lifetime purchase. Which of these are available, and what each one costs in your currency, is shown to you on the subscription screen in the app before you pay. Apple sets the prices you see in your local currency.
Sometimes a free trial is offered on a subscription. When one is available, the app tells you how long it lasts before you start it.
Two things worth knowing about trials, because they catch people out:
To avoid being charged, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
Subscriptions renew by themselves until you cancel. That is how Apple's subscriptions work, and it applies here too.
A lifetime purchase is different: you pay once and it does not renew.
You cancel through Apple, not through us. We cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf, because we never handle the payment.
On your iPhone: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Arc Squads → Cancel Subscription.
Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Neither does deleting your Arc Squads account. You have to cancel in the place above, or you will keep being charged.
Apple takes the payment, so Apple handles refunds. We do not have the ability to issue one, however much we might want to.
To ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account. Apple decides the outcome, using their own terms.
If something in the app is broken and that is why you want your money back, email us at hello@arcsquads.com first. We may be able to fix it, and if we cannot, we are happy to say so in writing to support your request to Apple.
A squad is a small group of people who can see each other's check-ins and progress. That only works if it stays a decent place to be.
Do not:
We use one piece of automatic checking, and we will describe it honestly: a wordlist that runs on your device at the moment you type a handle or a squad name, and refuses obvious profanity. It runs on those two things only — nothing else you do in the app passes through it — and it does not run on our servers. A filter is not a substitute for behaving decently. And no wordlist is perfect: if it refuses a name it should not have (a real name, a place, an innocent word), email hello@arcsquads.com and a person will look at it.
You can block them, which stops you seeing each other, and you can report them, which tells us. Both are in the app.
Reports come to a real person. We may remove content, remove someone from a squad, or close an account entirely. Serious things — threats, content involving children — we report to the authorities.
If you think we have got a decision wrong, email hello@arcsquads.com and we will look again. You do not need an Arc Squads account to complain: anyone — including a parent, or someone who has never used the app — can write to that address about anything in Arc Squads.
There is no tolerance in Arc Squads for pornographic content, suicide content, self-injury (self-harm) content, or eating disorder content, and no tolerance for abusive users. None of it belongs in a handle or a squad name — and those are the only things one member can write that another member sees. The app has no messages, no photos, no comments, no links and no feeds, so there is nowhere else for such content to appear. That design, the wordlist above, these terms, and a real person reading every report are how everyone using Arc Squads — children included — is kept away from this content.
For content that is illegal, our aim is that it is gone almost as soon as it exists, and the tiny writing surface makes that realistic:
Arc Squads helps you keep habits. It is not a doctor, a coach, a nutritionist, or a therapist, and nothing in it is medical advice.
You decide what rules to set and whether they are safe for you. If you have a health condition, are recovering from an injury, are pregnant, or have a history of disordered eating, speak to a professional before you build an arc around exercise or food.
If you are struggling with your mental health, please talk to someone. In the UK you can call Samaritans free on 116 123, any time.
We work hard on Arc Squads, but we cannot promise it will never have a bug, never go down, or never lose data. It is provided as it is.
We are not liable for things outside our reasonable control, or for indirect losses. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.
Keep your own record of anything that genuinely matters to you.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, particularly the squad rules in section 8.
Where it is fair to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond. For serious breaches we may act immediately.
If we close your account and you had time left on a subscription you paid for, ask Apple for a refund of the unused part using the link in section 7.
Your agreement is with us, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Arc Squads or for supporting it — that is us, at hello@arcsquads.com.
Apple's own terms also apply to your use of the App Store, and Apple may enforce these terms against you as a third party who benefits from them.
If we change these terms we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be flagged in the app.
If you keep using Arc Squads after a change, that counts as accepting it. If you do not accept it, stop using the app and cancel any subscription.
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and disputes go to the Scottish courts.
If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, this does not take away the protection of the consumer law in your own country, and you can bring a claim there.
Email hello@arcsquads.com. A real person reads it. We aim to reply within a few days.
